Following up on watching the 2022 version of Death on the Nile, Sharon and I watched the 1978 adaptation on Monday night. The film won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design at the 51st Academy Awards.
Death on the Nile is a British mystery film based on Agatha Christie's 1937 novel of the same name. It is directed by John Guillermin. The film features the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot played by Peter Ustinov for the first time. The all-star supporting cast includes Maggie Smith, Angela Lansbury, Bette Davis, Mia Farrow, Jane Birkin, David Niven, George Kennedy, and Jack Warden.
Unlike the 2022 version that was filmed in London, this version was filmed on location in Egypt. Famous ancient Egyptian sights featured in the film include: the Great Pyramids; the Sphinx, and; temples at Abu Simbel and Karnak. We will be visting all of these sites in October. I particularly enjoyed the section filmed at Karnak.
When it finished, Sharon said "that was better." We both liked this version of the film better than the 2022 adaptation..
