James Walter Ellis

Sharon's parents lived around the corner from Jim and Betty Ellis. She and her brother Tim grew up and went to school with their son and daughter.

Born August 5, 1926 in Ukiah, CA and passed away May 7, 2008 so quickly of stroke in Sacramento, CA. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Elizabeth (Betty), son James W. Ellis III (wife Lane), daughter Jane Ellis, granddaughter Jacqueline Ellis, nieces Mary, Katrina, MaryEllen, Reagan and nephews Russ, Heath, Justin, Drake, Dylan, Devan, Rhett.

Jim was raised by his Beloved Grandmother, Laura Hufford Campbell, in Berkeley, CA where he spent many happy days there especially while attending Berkeley High School. After proudly serving in the Army in the South Pacific during World War II, Jim attended and graduated from Santa Rosa Junior College where he was well known for his athletic abilities in basketball and baseball. He attended Cal Poly before starting his professional career with the Corps of Engineers, transferring to the Sacramento County Department of Public Works for roads and construction inspection in 1960 and to participate in the construction of the Sacramento Metro Airport. He retired in 1988 as a Senior Construction Inspector after 28 years of service. In his retirement years he was active in the SIRs Club (Seniors in Retirement) where he ran the golf program for a period of years.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 15th at 10:30 am at W. F. Gormley & Sons Funeral Home on 21st and Capitol Avenue. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to Loaves & Fishes or Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services. Jim, you were such a good man and God knew it too, and that is why He took you so quickly so you did not have to suffer. We will miss you so and especially your infectious laughter!
