Home from Virginia 2008

I have said in the past that one of the reasons I work hard to keep myself in shape is to be able to run with Wallen a couple of times a year. Wallen and I went out for a morning run. We covered 6 miles in 50:35, a 8:25 pace. Running from the Nooter’s house, we ran about half the distance on the W&OD trail where we ran three years ago. Although he and I have run faster times in the past, I felt pretty good about the pace and keeping up with him.

Without the kids, the four of us went to lunch at the Dogwood Tavern in downtown Falls Church.

After lunch, they dropped me at the Falls Church Metro station. From there, I caught a shuttle bus to Dulles. Breezing through security, I wound my way back home. I took a jetBlue flight from Dulles to JFK. After an hour layover at JFK, I boarded a nonstop flight to Sacramento. This flight was a little late leaving the gate, but got into Sacramento at 11:00 p.m., only a few minutes behind schedule.

As I was walking up to the truck, I was surprised that it would not chirp at me. The battery was dead. Sharon had renewed the automobile association membership in the last month; it took about 25 minutes for them to get there. By the time, I got home and in bed it was about 12:30 a.m. Monday morning.

I was disappointed that I did not have another day for some exploring. Wallen and I have talked about going down to Monticello. Next time, I am going to definitely make some time for this side trip!
