ESPN 30 for 30 - Muhammad and Larry

In the fall of 1980, Albert and David Maysles filmed a documentary of Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes training for their upcoming fight. The documentary never received a public screening or airing. Mixed with comtemporary interviews with some of the principles from both the Ali and Holmes camps, this footage has been released as Muhammad and Larry. This film is the fourth in ESPN's 30 for 30 series.

I am not a boxing fan; it is not one of my passions. Nevertheless, the flim is a amazingly candid look at Muhammad Ali in the twilight of his career. Shockingly, you can see the beginnings of Ali's Parkinson's disease even as he is training for the fight. I was also surprised by the comtemporary interviews with Holmes. He comes off as an oddly endearing character. Although not my favorite of the 30 for 30's so far, it is definitely worth watching!
